It is light, it is nice to use, and the images it makes are beautiful. But it would not be my choice for extended travel for two reasons. In a travel camera I want a higher level of weather sealing and the peace of mind that comes from having two card slots. When I am choosing a camera for travel any camera that lacks top class weather sealing, twin cards and very good battery life does not make the cut, no matter how great it might be in other respects.

It’s almost pocketable and it currently exceeds the image quality of any full frame DSLR out there. The 35mm Zeiss prime lens on it is made for that is absolutely incredible.

You don’t get an optical viewfinder, nor the speed of a DSLR, but it’s so small and light.

Check out the quality this thing produces. It’s an absolute monster:

Hey Adam,

I’ve not found that to be a problem, but I do tend to use the centre focus point almost exclusively in lower light situations, as I find it to be faster. Have you tried that?

The shots it does pull off eventually in low-light are incredible though. The ability to shoot indoors in low-light or even moderate lighting without a flash lightens the load and makes this camera a lot of fun but I suppose that’s the case for any camera with high ISO capabilities. . . . just wished this one focused faster/better.

Hey Danny 🙂 The 6D and 7D are definitely for different markets. The 7D has a much faster frames per second, and with the crop sensor is really aimed at the wildlife photographer / sports photographer, who needs to be able to fire off a lot of frames at once, and also take advantage of the crop sensor on the longer length lenses.

The 6D is more of a landscape photographer / portrait photographer / street shooting style camera, that works particularly well in lower light situations.

They are both excellent cameras. I’d ask why you feel the need to go full frame and what the 7D is currently not letting you do, before taking the leap, because it is definitely not a straight forward upgrade in terms of the 6D is better than the 7D. It is better in some scenarios, but not all 😉

But Canon nomenclatures are rather confusing. Apart from the sensor-size, why would you choose a 6D over a 7D, or vice-versa. Thanks,

I shoot with a mirrorless m43 and really would like a full frame camera for photography, specifically for low light shooting – and this 6D is top of my list if funds make themselves available. I took a profile pic for someone with it while I was feeling the 6D out. He popped on his smartphone, retrieved the best pic and emailed it straight away while we were in a bar. Pretty magic stuff! Good review and thanks for the other info on it. Peter

The Canon EOS 6d seems to be a good one for photographers but I’m also the video kinda guy and decided to go for a another. Anyway I’m thinking of another camera for photographs only.

Well, Christmas is near 😉
