This is great advice. I use Audible regularly, but more than once have been caught purchasing a book I know I’ll enjoy, only to discover I can’t stand the voice of the reader. Check the sample before you buy, even if it’s a favorite author!

I’ve updated the post to make that clearer. 🙂

I used Audible a lot on a 2014 US road trip and when I lived in India and had a ridiculously long commute. I canceled it as my podcast list continued to grow and my commute got shorter, but I am a big fan of audiobooks, particularly the Harry Potter series and anything by Neil Gaiman — he reads his own books, and they are absolutely lovely.

I have even been known to sit in the parking lot when I arrive and listen until a good spot to stop. I have ‘read’ many good books this way and been introduced to many new authors. I also borrow audio books from my library for free, but many of the books I have listened to were not available through the library.

They would just accumulate as long as your membership was still active. That was usually the point at which I realized that I should cancel my subscription; a growing accumulation of book credits.

If you do cancel, you lose your credits, so it only makes sense to redeem all your credits before cancelling since the books remain available to you even after cancelling your subscription.

If this truly has changed and you do need to use your credits within the month they are issued, that is unfortunate.
