It’s apparently quite possible to read/write USB media and use (eg) USB keyboards on the Nexus 7 with the right adapter – I actually bought one from Amazon that was supposed to do the job, but it doesn’t seem to. Next time I’m in a place with a decent computer/electronics store, I’ll see if I can find one that works a little better.

I’m looking for one on an upcoming trip tho so I can leave the huge laptop at home, but what I really need is the ability to back up 10GB of photo and video a day. Whether it has USB slots (more than one for ideal practicality) will be the decider, altho I’m also tempted to upgrade my ancient Kindle (with physical keyboard, oh yeah!) as that’s not great for reading the majority of the PDFs I send to it.

I already owned a Xoom and an iPad. For travel we found the apps available on Android to be more complete than iPad so it became our go to tablet, but certainly not a necessity or great replacement over a notebook.

But the Nexus7 performance, screen and battery life are so great, I think the conclusion here is absolutely correct. Yes, it’s the best tablet for travel, and potentially a full replacement to a notebook depending on your work, if you pair it with a keyboard.

Then I thought about the small screen size and no keyboard. THEN I stumbled across the Asus Transformer with an attachable keyboard for a great price. ($370-ish, if I recall).

I’ve been using that for the past year, and I love it. While it’s fast, slick, light, and great battery life (keyboard adds several hours of charge all by itself), I’m still more comfortable with the old windows OS. Truth be told, not being very geeky, I struggled to figure out the whole Android thing.

I’ll be leaving for Mexico in a few weeks, and I think I’ll be able to skype, blog, and generally communicate with this little device very comfortably. And what I can’t figure out just won’t get done.

Good review of a great product. You do need a bluetooth keyboard, however.
