Quite timely for me in light of my most recent stay at an Airbnb. I love tinkering in the kitchen and prefer to make my own meals, no matter how small they may be, so I was quite frustrated at how poorly equipped the kitchen was. I didn’t even mind (that much) that the range had only two burners. But a deficit of items that I consider essential made me a bit cranky at first.

Fortunately, my so-called superhost (although not really super) was responsive to my request for some extra essentials, such as an aluminum pot for brewing my own pour over coffee (i bought the cloth filter myself).

And while we’re on the topic of those comforts we crave when we’re away from home, I’ll also mention how much I missed having the items I typically use to hand wash clothes, or whatever happens to need some hand washing. Things like a small hand brush, old toothbrush, and a basin for soaking items overnight. My host was kind enough to get me that basin, and it was a lifesaver.

The little things aren’t really so little after all.

That’s a great idea! I don’t do any baking and often don’t measure when I cook, so this didn’t come to mind. Measurements in your preferred system would certainly make things easier. Thanks!

My recipes are all using imperial measurements, not metric, so picking up measuring cups in Europe won’t help me make my favorite recipes on the road.
