Comments on: How Reliable Is AppleCare in Countries with No Apple Store? https://toomanyadapters.com/how-reliable-applecare-no-apple-store/ Tech gear, gadgets, reviews, and advice Fri, 22 Nov 2019 15:40:12 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.8.3 By: Marko https://toomanyadapters.com/how-reliable-applecare-no-apple-store/#comment-690134 https://toomanyadapters.com/?p=17364#comment-690134 Hi I recently has water damage on my MacBook Pro 2017 with AppleCare+ which was purchased in New Zealand but I am currently in Cabo, Mexico.
I took the MacBook into MacStore in Cabo San Lucas and they told me the following “we have detected irreparable damage in an excessive number by contact with liquids that invalidate even the Apple Care guarantee that you had acquired so it would not be possible to offer a repair for you.”
Everywhere I look online for AppleCare+ states that water damage is covered under accidental damage.
I have had water damage in New Zealand before and a local apple repair/reseller replaced the logic board fine with no issues.
I guarantee they have not tested all the parts and only checked the liquid detectors and I feel like they don’t want to do the repair cause its going to cost them to much labour/time to replace all the parts or test which parts actually need replacing.
How would I find out if its Apple or MacStore saying it’s “irreparable”?

Does anyone have any advice or experience with this in Mexico?
I think there is a offical apple store in Mexico City now? Maybe I can send it there.
Or am I better to send it to an Apple store in USA?

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated

Thanks

Avenida Vasco de Quiroga 3800 Lomas de Santa Fe, Antigua Mina de Totolapa CP 05109 – Del. Cuajimalpa (CDMX) 55 1037 6400 Mapa y cómo llegar en carro
Horario de apertura:
Lun a Jue, Dom:
11:00 – 20:00
Vie, Sáb:
11:00 – 21:00

This is in the Santa Fe Mall in the Santa Fe district of Mexico City (North West part of the city)
No clue as to if they honor out of country warranties or not.

I’ve lived in Mexico (Mazatlan) for ten years and have always worked on the assumption that there is no one who can repair Apple products in Mexico regardless of what they claim. And, yes, Apple US people are clueless of the situation in Mexico. I buy Apple products out of the US and plan on driving them back up if I need repairs. In the past Apple US did not honor warranties on products bought in Mexico.

The MacStore and IStore businesses are recent.(got a MacStore in Maz three months ago) The warranty situation in Mexico is quite different than in the US. They are not reliable and most people accept that they buy something and assume all the risk. For example, I recently bought a Ducati Scrambler motorcycle in Mexico. It came with a US warranty, i. e. there is no effective warranty in Mexico. I’ll have to take to the US to get any warranty work done if needed. This is just how it works down here.

Having an official Apple Store, finally, there may be someone in Mexico where repairs can be done or they may send everything back to the US. Have to ask them.

Phillip, I’m in Medellìn now with a 6 month old MacBook pro and a flashing “?” On my screen. If I may ask, who did you use here? I’m thinking of going down to Monterey (big mall just for computers and phones) I’d prefer to use a store that has a good reputation though.

MacStore is a premium reseller, and indeed included on the official list. If you scroll over the map a little bit it will pop up — the Apple MacStore Polanco on Avenida Presidente Masaryk, the very same one where Alberto treated my late MacBook Pro.

Granted, there are tons more iShop Mixup — that is the power of the Slim empire.

Or maybe that’s the trading name for one of those places?

I found an Apple reseller there. Not only did they fix the drive, but they recovered 100% of my data. It was in the second year of Apple Care. The charge: zero. I took these two wonderful people and new BFFs out for a great dinner. I am using the same machine to write this comment.
