When it comes to e-readers are not the only, nor necessarily the best, game in town.

I am a voracious reader; the last time I traveled carrying books most of the weight in my daypack was books, and I had to find bookstores wherever I went.

I now carry a Paperwhite, for all the reasons presented in the article. With the worldwide expansion of internet availability, I can connect if I want to download more reading material, my pack is much lighter, and while I can go to bookstores if I want to or they’re interesting, they’re not monopolizing the top line of my “Things to Do” list.

I’ve been an avid KP owner for years. This year I succumbed to an Amazon promo and traded my KP in for the latest version. Right from the get-go I noticed the battery was nowhere close to my original. I was down to 83% shortly after first turning it on. Now I get maybe three days of reading 2-3 hours a day. I suspect I got a lemon. I now won’t live without one of these, and if Amazon won’t do something I’ll pay again for another, I like it so much. I’d be curious if others have a similar take on new vs earlier KP battery.

One other advantage I like is the sync across devices, so if I am somewhere with time to spare without the Kindle, I just open up the phone app. Book is right there on the right page.

Side note: I lived in Doha until July. We must have just missed each other!
